STRATOS Pistikopoulos, director of research in the chemical engineering department at Imperial College, London, has been named as the recipient of the 2012 Computing in Chemical Engineering Award.
The award, made by the Computing and Systems Technology (CAST) Division of the American Institute of Chemical Engineers (AIChE), recognises outstanding contributions in the application of computing and systems technology to chemical engineering.
CAST chose Pistikopoulos for being “a world leading authority in process systems”, citing innovative and breakthrough technologies such as multi-parametric programming of his patented MPC (model predictive control) on a chip. He won a European Research Council Award for computer-based drug delivery in 2009, and his processes have been applied in industry by the likes of Shell, Air Products, the ParOS operating system, and Process Systems Enterprise.
Pistikopoulos is only the fourth European to receive the CAST prize in its 33-year history. He will be presented with the award at the CAST Division dinner and banquet during the upcoming AIChE Annual Meeting in Pittsburgh on 30 October.
