AMEC is to carry out two support contracts for UK petrochemicals firm Sabic, in a deal worth £70m (US$108m).

The first contract will see Amec’s engineers work at Sabic’s aromatics, low density polyethylene and olefins plants at Wilton and North Tees in the northeast of England, and extends an already existing agreement through to 2014. The second contract, worth £40m, covers maintenance work at the same plants.

According to Amec, the contracts will support about 720 jobs.

John Pearson, managing director of Amec in Europe and West Africa, says he is “delighted” to have been awarded the contracts, saying that it “reinforces AMEC’s position as the leading provider of turnaround services to the UK’s petrochemical sector.”
