Description:
Johnson Matthey is a speciality chemicals company focused on its core skills in catalysis, precious metals, fine chemicals and process technology. The Technology Centre undertakes research work for the group. A new permanent position has arisen for a researcher in the area of liquid/slurry processing: essentially non-Newtonian rheology, flow and mixing. This position, based at the Technology Centre, Chilton (North East England), builds on significant research and development work within Johnson Matthey and via academic collaborations over recent years.
Key responsibilities
• Provide fluid / slurry mixing expertise within JMTC and support to businesses
• Experimental work in mixing– laboratory and pilot scale equipment, plus manufacturing plant trials
• Development of enhanced mixing experimental capabilities in JM
• Modelling of fluid / slurry processing in stirred tanks, in line mixing and transfer lines
• Contribute to development of fundamental approaches to characterising and modelling slurry and paste rheology
The ideal candidate will have a degree and preferably a PhD in Chemical Engineering with specific experimental and/or modelling experience of mixing and/or non-Newtonian flow. To be successful in this role you will be results orientated and show initiative. Good communication skills, both written and verbal, are essential, as is the ability to collaborate effectively with other scientists both inside and outside Johnson Matthey.
