DOW CEO and IChemE Fellow Andrew Liveris has been elected chairman of The Business Council in the US at its latest meeting.
The Business Council is a group of 150 private sector company CEOs in the US which meets three times a year with government officials and leaders in academia, science, technology and society to discuss policies. Membership is by invitation only and its aim is to be non-partisan. The Council acts as a network for its members to share knowledge and best practice. It often provides leaders for government panels and committees.
Liveris will take up his position in January 2013 and will succeed Jamie Dimon, chairman and CEO of JPMorgan Chase & Co. He will be joined by four vice-chairs, who were elected at the same meeting – Ursula Burns, chairman and CEO of Xerox, Richard Davis, chairman and CEO of US Bancorp, Henry Kravis, co-founder and co-CEO of Kohlberg Kravis Roberts and Doug Oberhelman, chairman and CEO of Caterpillar.
“I intend to continue Jamie Dimon’s efforts to improve the dialogue between business leaders and policy makers, and will work to deepen the understanding of the importance of America’s corporations on economic growth and job creation,” says Liveris.
