Description:
This position is part of the Society of Chemical Industry (SCI) team which sits within Wiley’s Research business. The team works across a portfolio of scholarly peer-reviewed journals related to chemical engineering, chemistry and biotechnology. The journals publish research relevant to a number of applications including energy production and use, sustainable industrial production, materials, food, agriculture and environment. All of the journals offer an open access publishing option, and one of the journals is fully open access.
This position will involve working with other commissioning editors in the team, as well as external editors, to ensure that the requirements of each journal are covered. Key duties will involve commissioning high quality, topical articles and special issues and managing peer review of manuscripts from submission to final decision. The commissioning requirements of the role will involve occasional travel within the UK and overseas to attend scientific meetings and conferences. The peer review responsibilities will include covering for other members of the team. Close collaboration will be required to ensure that work is prioritised effectively.
In addition, the Commissioning Editor will plan and implement commissioning strategies and journal development initiatives. Excellent organisational skills are important, as well as the ability to manage your own workload.
Selection criteria
- Previous experience in commissioning and peer review of manuscripts is essential
- Knowledge of subject areas relevant to the SCI journal portfolio, especially chemical engineering, is desirable
- Knowledge of open access journals is desirable
- Prior use of ScholarOne Manuscripts and Thomson Reuters’ Web of Knowledge (including Web of Science, Journal Citation Reports etc) is desirable but not essential
- Excellent organisation skills and the ability to manage own workload effectively
- It is essential that the successful candidate has Bachelors degree or equivalent in a scientific subject, preferably chemical engineering or another engineering discipline. If you have a Masters or PhD or equivalent in a scientific subject this will be advantageous to your application.
