FLUOR has won the engineering and related management services contract for Singapore’s first liquefied natural gas (LNG) terminal on Jurong Island. Fluor was awarded the contract by Samsung C&T, which last month won the $1b engineering, procurement and construction (EPC) contract by the LNG terminal’s owner and operator Singapore LNG Corporation. Fluor booked the contract in Q4 of 2009, the value of which was undisclosed. Foster Wheeler is providing project management consultancy for the project. "We are tremendously pleased to be part of this groundbreaking LNG project in Singapore," says Peter Oosterveer, Fluor Energy & Chemicals president. "This project cements Fluor's presence in this region of the world using our talented resources in both Singapore and Manila." The LNG terminal, located in the southwest of Jurong Island, will have an initial capacity of 3.5m t/y, with the potential for expansion to 6m t/y. It is expected to begin operating in 2013 and will reduce Singapore’s reliance on imported gas and therefore greatly increase its energy security. The Singapore government formed a new company, Singapore LNG Corporation, in June 2009 to take over the ownership and development of the terminal after original designated owner and operator PowerGas, along with partner GDF Suez, struggled to develop the site to schedule as a result of the recession. |
