INEOS CHLORVINYLS is to invest tens of millions of pounds in its chloromethanes assets in Runcorn, Cheshire in the Northwest of the UK.

The exact amount has not been announced but over the next five years, Ineos will replace an aging asset at the site and see the upgrading of existing ancillary plants. The company says this will underpin its position in the chloromethanes market for the next decade.

Several long-term contractual agreements for the plant’s output have recently been successfully completed, leading to Ineos’ decision to invest in it.

Ashley Reed, business director for Ineos ChlorVinyls says: “This is a decisive step forward for the chloromethanes business at Runcorn Site and in addition it secures a significant portion of the chlorine output at the site.
